Desks and dressing table vanities were commonly found in homes in the 1930's and 40's. As time goes on, trends, tastes and needs change. In the era of technology, long gone are the days that we would sit at a writing desk for correspondence. Laptops, ipads and iphones now make our offices a little more portable.
Lora and I gather up these desks and vanities whenever possible, because they are so functional once re-purposed.
Hubby removes the top (some are easier than others), and cuts two new tops to turn this once desk into two side tables. Sometimes he adds wainscoting to the sides if needed or in the pic below he added pieces of tin ceiling to give it a different look.
Sorry for the dark pics, garage lighting isn't the best.
They make functional side tables for our family room on either side of the couch with lots of storage for remotes, books etc. In the bedroom one on either side of the bed for a lamp and storage for reading glasses, tissues and hand lotion.
We still have one of these desks in our home office for the computer and our daughter has a vanity in her bedroom. When the time is right, they may both be on the chopping block!
