With the early spring we had, everyone else's pots have received so much Miracle Grow they're bursting and beautiful, but me...I'm buying and planting like crazy to make up for lost time!
Since I don't have a driveway full of PG projects to work on, I want to actually enjoy gardening this year. I don't care if it's late; family and store commitments needed to be attended to first. But now, I'm going to indulge in planting, because you can never have too many flowers!
Last Saturday in the 90 degree heat with no wind, I pulled weeds like crazy in the garden around the deck. I was dripping, but it felt good. I added some more perennials, spread mulch, and placed some stepping stones in a path so Chatty Cathy can make "soup" in the water fountain when she comes over.
I deadheaded the Siberian Iris, the Peonies and the Roses, which had shed petals everywhere. At the end of the day, I was pretty happy with what I'd accomplished. Mr. Fix-it also announced he was happy with his second Saturday in a row with no PG projects!
So this week has been all about filling the pots with beauty. My vans come home with quite a few loads of blooming cargo.
When the heat kicks in, I love the bright pastels: hot pink, yellow, orange, purple, with the punch of chartreuse green and black leaves to set everything off.
And this is the year I'm planting succulents for my table top arrangements. Lowe's had a great assortment of small, unique ones that I kinda went crazy with...
With a grad party on the horizon next year, we're making some improvements to the landscape this summer. Mr. Fix-it is raring to go with the tiller, and we're laying out new gardens. Can't wait to fill these, too!
Maybe by August everything will look pretty enough to take pics of! Osmocote and Miracle Grow...
