This post just didn't quite get done by Christmas Day, but I consider this week still the Christmas season, therefore I will share my home and how it's decorated with you! I will apologize for the blurry photos. After taking these, we decided we needed to upgrade the camera situation. So, in future posts I will be learning and experimenting with my new camera (no, not a SLR).
On to Christmas...
It's so easy to get in a rut with Christmas decorating, but I never do the same thing twice. My goals this year were to incorporate words into my schemes and to use some of the divine twine(that we started carrying at the shop). I brought home the apple green and white colorway. I'm seeing simple banners used everywhere and decided to make one. A little bit of sparkly white felt, cut with my pinking shears and some chipboard letters, helped me achieve both my goals!
I used my small paper punch for the holes, and threaded a darning needle with the divine twine. I found these cute holly leaves at Archivers, and dug out some vintage buttons. I used tacky glue for the letters, but sewed the leaves and buttons on with thread. Wouldn't it be cute to use silver letters for a Happy New Year banner?
I really liked how the milkglass plates in the bay window looked during Thanksgiving, so decided to use more divine twine and leftover letters on them.
I also wrapped a couple of Shiny Brite boxes for some "faux" presents.
Since you can kind of see my color scheme developing...soft greens, pinks, yellows. Here's a couple more pics that fit in. I remember this piece of furniture being on my great-grandma's enclosed front porch. It holds my collection of FireKing, milkglass, and some aqua sandwich glass.
Here's my "I Spy" Christmas collection of vintage small things...
Our live tree in the living room never got ornaments on it, partly out of tiredness, but mostly because it was so beautiful with just the white lights. It's in it's standard attire of a galvanized bucket for a skirt. Mr. Fix-it has got the engineering down to a science: clipped off the legs of an old tree holder and attached it to a big disc of wood-all hidden in the bucket. The kids agreed-leave the ornaments in the box this year.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and especially at the holidays, gets a lot of use. Of course I have to decorate it with my favorite aquas and greens!
Birds and glittery nests, mittens and snowballs: the window between outside and inside is blurred.
Brought this wreath home from the shop to try it on for size, adding a few old and new balls. This flocked wreath hangs in the back hall on the original exterior sheathing, welcoming all who enter. The frame will stay, and showcase whatever season we are in.
Almost forgot...my "winter" dishes, and this great bedspread-turned tablecloth-I got at the Junk Bonanza. Didn't even realize how well it went with the dishes when I got it!
As for the rest of the house, my kids get into the merriment and each get to enjoy lights of the season as sugarplums dance in their heads...
Big boy's ghetto theme room sports stop-light looking lights and some Peanuts inspired ornaments.
Happy girl's room has sherbet color lights-covered the white cords with stuffing to look like snow. Found these great hand smocked ornaments somewhere and added them to other sweet decorations from her newborn days and elsewhere.
Mr. Freckles has the all-american look going-baseball and doggies. Didn't sell this awesome bedspread (totally Pottery Barn look), so disappointedly had to take it home!
Decorated our pencil post bed with some greens and a cool old frame. I wanted to get a bunch of mistletoe to hang from the center. Found this awesome coverlet at an estate sale years ago (think it was $18) and use it for the holidays through Valentine's Day. Sewed this button pillow myself, along with others I sold several years ago...more about them in February.
Hope you enjoyed the holiday house tour! My wish is that you are enjoying your cozy home with your precious family and friends and remembering the true meaning of C-H-R-I-S-T-mas. Joy to the World the Lord has come!
