Tis the season of acquiring junk: church sales, estate sales, garage sales and curbside clean-up days. We have been scrounging in junk a lot lately, and the next step is scrubbing!
Rescuing items from the garbage heap to be used in your home requires quite a bit of work! The "finding" for me is much more fun than the scrubbing...but it has to be done. With our ever-changing Minnesota weather, we need to take advantage of these 70 degree sunny/cloudy days and scrub while we can! Many days in the summer are too hot, and running the hose in the winter doesn't work too well! So, today I am heading for a date with the driveway and a bunch of "new" treasures. Here are some of my favorites that will accompany me on this very glamorous day.
Rated "R" jeans: restricted from public use and bending over when others are present in the driveway with me. Don't want to wreck a perfectly good pair of jeans while scrubbing.
Comet is my favorite scrub. I love the grit and the little bit of bleach. It cuts through grease and scum quite quickly and I'm all about making scrubbing go faster. I like putting on gloves and using a nylon bristle brush. The added bonus with Comet is that it happens to be my favorite color-aqua! I also learned a little song about it when I was a kid.
Comet-it makes your teeth turn green,
Comet-it tastes like gasoline,
Comet-oh try some comet,
Oh try some comet and vomit, today!
The advertisers probably wouldn't want to use that little ditty. I use comet on painted furniture-especially whites, metal cabinets and sometimes inside drawers. Rinsing off the grit is a little tricky-hot water helps.
My other driveway favorite are S.O.S. pads. They are a fine grade steel wool with some great blue sudsy stuff inside.
SOS pads work great on chrome legs that have rusty spots, galvanized buckets and tools, and anything metal. The blue foam takes a little to rinse off, but what a difference a little scrubbing can make!
Sometimes I just start with a big bucket of vinegar and a little Mrs. Meyers All Purpose Cleaner, and graduate to the tough stuff, if needed.
The suns coming out...better start scrubbing!
P.S. No I am not getting paid from these companies...but it may make scrubbing more appealing if I was!
