Here's my favorite spot in the house! Nestled between our big sliding glass door, and a collection of my favorite things.
It's where I usually start my morning off with a cup of coffee, watching the birds at the feeder, maybe getting caught up on my bible study. This cozy spot is in the kitchen, yet on our recent appraisal, the woman called it a "den". There's an old word for ya!
Thought it would be fun for you to get a closer look at my collection shelves. This cupboard was custom made for some antique doors that came off a cupboard of my Grandma's. Of course, the doors aren't quite done being stripped, so I am enjoying the open cupboards!
Most of you know, my favorite color is green, and especially the jadeite version! But of course, aqua comes in a close second. It is a version of green!
The top shelf displays some of my Grandma's button collection. Happy girl and I love to have them handy for whatever craft project we need. I love to see a singular color of them together. I also have a jar of belt/scarf clips I picked up at a friend's estate sale. I haven't figured out what to do with them yet, but I can't part with them. Bought a big bag of embroidery floss at a church sale, and love how they look emassed in clear jars! I pulled the "fall colored" ones forward, here. I'll pull forward the red, green, white and black next week!
Flour sifters with that touch of green, a milkglass rolling pin of my mother-in-law's, a cute black pie bird I picked up in Buffalo, and a yo-yo hot pad I found on the side of the road. Yep...it was on the top of a pile and I stuck it in my back pocket like I'd just found gold! On the right are more of Grandma's buttons and some gold bells. I put the brown buttons in Grandma's glass coffeepot, because she was a coffee-a-holic before it became trendy. She'd have it hot in the morn, and over ice in the afternoon!
Green glass is so pretty! Especially when it's been recently cleaned :) Got these awesome green and white marbles from Ezra (the junk pimp), and couldn't part with them! The owl on the right came all the way from Florida! On a family vacation, I stole away for a couple hours to a church sale! On the advice from Grandma...go to thrift stores and sales in other states, because you find different things! Mr. Owl's bright green color and aqua eyes had me at "hello"! The cookie jar on his right...actually don't remember where??? But the "Mace" spice jar came out of my other Granda's cupboards. Anyone know what MACE is??
Lastly, some origami flowers and a little bit of red. I have a fondness for vintage labels and typeset. This Red Diamond Spiced Fish jadeite container was a gift from my mom. The Tropicana juice glass container holds some sandbackkel forms, and I just love this perfectly green vintage baby cup! On the right are some different-era aqua ball jars, because I've learned from Cheryl that you can never have enough jars!
Hope you enjoyed my favorite little corner! Hope you have one in your home, or maybe you will be inspired to create one!
