This was my very first china cabinet given to me by a neighbor. My neighbor's friend had left it at her home while staying with her in between moves. My neighbor had no use for the piece and the movers had damaged the top. She knew I was always working on a furniture project.
I was so excited to have a place to display our new wedding china (this isn't it, this is china set #4). Over the years, I've acquired a few sets at estate sales and auctions. I've re-displayed the cabinet many times with different sets. Now twenty years later I think it's time for a little facelift. Sorry Mom, I'm painting over a piece of Ethan Allen furniture.
I went with Miss Mustard Seed's Lucketts Green. I love the way it's easily distressed to look like its taken years to achieve this patina. I meant to take pics of the finished empty cabinet, but freshly washed china sitting on our kitchen counter too long made me a little nervous with kids home for the summer. That and I was just so excited to see it finally all put back together that I forgot.
No more hanging doily to cover the damaged top!
I removed the grid work and changed out the knobs for glass ones to give it a new look. I haven't started decorating for fall yet, but decided to add the amber glasses for a touch of fall harvest color. I usually add seasonal items like mini trees at Christmas, white milk glass or pink depression glass in the spring and some seasonal foliage here and there. It's fun to play.
That turned out so nice! So updated and fresh looking! That Luckett's green will be especially fun at Christmas, and love the glass knobs! Your kitchen cabinets are next...
