My husband and daughter found this amazing postal sorter at a local farm auction while I was working at the store. My husband removed the cardboard back and power washed it several times even before I got home. It was love at first sight!
After days of scrubbing, a new bead board back and several coats of poly, it was clear I couldn't part with this awesome piece. It would be the perfect organizer for my sewing room. Take a tour of my sewing room here. (I still want to cover that button lamp shade in a vintage table cloth fabric) On the sewing room tour I left out the wall where the postal sorter now sits. That wall had a large metal shelving unit with stacks of fabric. That metal shelving unit is now in our garage (where it should be) housing my sanders, heat gun and the like.
Husband inserted a few crate ends to divide out the top portion to organize my book stash.
I had so much fun playing in the sewing room for a few days organizing fabrics, trims, buttons and supplies.
The picture above shows just how primitive this piece really is, the tree bark is still on the side.
I love being able to see my fabrics and trims all in one place, no more searching through baskets and jars for just the right trim for a project.
This postal sorter holds so much stuff, I love it! I asked my husband if he thought the firemen would mind rescuing this piece for me if our house ever caught fire? I've always had the mindset that everything is replaceable, but I'm not so sure about this one.
Now that the sewing room is just the way I want it, I may never leave. It just makes me smile. Organized and functional, it's Sew time!
