What are your Thanksgiving plans? Do they include a Pinterest-worthy table, perfectly set with all the traditional foods, with the dining table leaves in, so the dishes can be passed easily to the 10-12 family members? That's what I usually grew up with, and still appreciate some years, but Mr. Fix-it's BIG family that I married into has taken this holiday to a whole new level, for my kids' memories!
It's a Camp Shamineau Thanksgiving for us this year, and the troops are excited! My brother and sister-in-law host their families and any associated friends to celebrate with them at the Christian camp they direct. This year, we will be about 60! Cozy's out this year...it's a crowd! Probably more like the Pilgrims and Native Americans...introductions, small talk, food preparation, laughing and jokes, kids running, a myriad of different foods...but all focused on God's Goodness and Provision!
Our day will include food prep in a big, stainless-steel kitchen, with very large ovens!
There will be several turkeys, prepared in deep fat fryers, outside!
There will be looong tables full of large dishes of food, prepared by many different hands:
There will be looong tables set up to eat in a big dining hall...double this amount from two years ago!
For the adults, there will be lots of chatting and catching up with family members that only see each other a couple times of year!
For entertainment, there will be shooting, ropes climbing, animal petting at the nature center, and even horse-watching, and maybe a hayride!
We're bringing supplies to assemble at least 12 Operation Christmas child boxes! Being thankful for all we have takes on more meaning as we realize these simple items are so special and appreciated to kids in different countries! We pray over them, once they're all assembled.
Hope your turkey day is full of blessings and memory-makers, whatever the size of your gathering!
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Patina General!
