A couple years ago, Happy Girl and I spent the weekend sewing curtains for her room out of a bright, fun, Amy Butler print.
The fabric has really set the tone for her room, even now as it's evolving into a "teen" room. It's so great to pick decor that can grow with them. She still loves all these bright, happy colors, and although she got a newly refreshed headboard and bedside tables, we don't need to re-sew any curtains!
Her new bedside tables were created from an old desk of my Grandma's. Mr. Fix-it cut out the drawer in the middle, creating 2 nice, tall storage pieces that work great on either side of a bed. I painted them with Miss Mustard Seed's Eulalie Sky, and did a custom mix for the trim of Apron Strings, Linen White, and Tricycle. It turned out a pretty geranium pink that worked perfectly with the curtain fabric! We filled the holes of the old handles, and replaced them with crystal knobs from my childhood home. I stenciled a scrolly pattern with a soft grey paint around each knob. Happy Girl said they look "elegant", yet "fun". I used a little irridescent white acrylic paint over the top of the stencil for a little glimmer.
Here's how the beautiful new upholstered headboard looks with the new bedside tables...
So you can see the fun, big ball light above, and now with some light in the room...
Can I just tell you how happy I am that she doesn't have posters of teen magazines all over the walls? Oh, sometimes God just gives small pleasures:)
Her room is all about sewing and creating...it's as close as we get to a craft room in this house of ours!
Welcome to the Happy Girl studio:
Her fabric stash probably beats out a lot of grown women!
We just got this little long, black shelf for her thread at Ikea over spring break. It's just so simple, yet so cute with a rainbow of thread spools! The shelves, brackets and frames are from Ikea, too. The mini antique, black sewing machine was my Grandma's...she definitely takes after her, with her sewing abilities!
Of course, she likes to repurpose old things, too! She spotted this vintage yellow ironing board in the garage, and knew she needed it for jewelry. She claimed the little black desk the same day I picked it from the side of the road, and she actually uses the dress form I picked up somewhere in high school!
It's so fun when a child's room really reflects who they are! She loves going to sleep and getting to gaze at a pretty wall of creative inspiration!
What an inspiration you and her grandma must be for your daughter. Something to be proud of and I'm sure you are looking forward to seeing where she goes with her creativity.

I sure am! She loves theatre too, so maybe she'll go into costume design! Thanks for reading!
