My family is definitely more of a "do-er" family, rather than a "reader" family, but summer blesses us with more relaxed schedules, and it's somehow more appealing to read outside! Here's what my family and I have been reading this summer:
Perfect book for early-mid teenagers! Heather Flies has been a Youth Pastor for many years, and the humorous way she describes the differences between boys and girls and what's on their minds is entertaining for parents, as well. My kids will sit around and read this book with friends and hoot and holler! I love when she describes boys as waffles-compartmentalized, and girls as spaghetti; everything going on at the same time! In a world that is fastly doing away with gender, this book will be a fresh and informative outlook for your teens! It will give you some great conversation-starters, also!
Big Boy just received this book as a graduation gift from his youth pastor. He hasn't even seen it yet. It's been sitting on the kitchen counter, and therefore has gotten picked up and read quite a bit by the rest of us. I've heard a lot about Bob Goff lately, so I gave a couple chapters a whirl. I'm loving how Bob tells stories from his life that portray the relationship Jesus wants to have with us, and how He wants us to extend that love and relationship to others. Mr. Freckles is already half-way done reading this book, probably because there's plenty of fodder for boys to realte to: motorcycles, guns, mountain-climbing. I have a feeling when Big Boy comes home from camp this weekend, we will no longer have the book waiting on the kitchen counter...
This book is all mine! Picked it up before Memorial Weekend, and have been poring through it's encouraging and resourceful pages ever since. I'm brushing off the cobwebs of my junk-filled brain and re-kindling my love for language and communicating. My Speech/Communication college days are coming back to me and I'm hoping to somehow bring the two worlds together. We'll see what the future holds. I've also been spending a lot of time with this:
Compel training is a on-line teaching/training course and community of writers offered through Proverbs31 ministries. What a whole new world publishing is! I am learning so much, I feel like I'm in college again. If you have any desire to write/speak/communicate, definitely check out what they have to offer.
What are you reading this summer? Are you reading for pleasure, or for learning, or maybe for inspiration? Are any of these resources familiar to you?
