Growing up, Memorial Day was just a bonus day to the first weekend of the summer cabin season. The day was spent sleeping in, eating a big breakfast, and then jumping in the lake once we got the o.k. that our tummies had rested long enough.
But, as kids tend to do, the last couple of years have brought changes to the family traditions.
The band performing at Memorial Day services at two local cemetaries has now found us leaving the rest of the relatives and coming home Sunday night, so Monday morning can be all about...
those who served...and died...for our freedom.
And although, this band gig will only last a couple years...
I think I kind of like this new tradition.
To all who serve, have served, and lost loved ones for our freedom...
