Our home office is in great need of renovation. It was on my list of home projects, but not at the top... until I found this work bench.
This bare wood was under the stack of drawers on the bottom shelf, it gives me a glimpse of future potential. I may still keep the stack of drawers, but they need cleaning and work. The pic on the right is the top. It was covered by a metal plate that we removed. Armed with a scrub brush, de-greaser, and a hose, it was finally clean. Next step... sand off the paint! I can't wait to see the natural beauty of the wood.
Many of you recognize this set of hardware store drawers from our store, Patina General. They were for sale until after a few months of looking at them I realized they needed to come home with me. This piece was my inspiration piece to start the home office reno. I knew I wanted a work bench to place them atop. I was expecting that hubby would need to build it to get the size I needed, and that would be sometime in the future. When I found the work bench my decorating wheels were set in motion. I had the entire room redo envisioned in my head in a few minutes. If only the actual work could be done that quickly.
Our home office was previously a formal living room when we moved into our home fourteen years ago. This border came with the house, I didn't love it then, but had several other priority projects on my list. It coordinated with the formal pieces we had from our previous home, so it's been with us all these years. I'm looking forward to the therapeutic day of its removal.
There are french doors leading into the room and this built in. I'm planning to paint the back wall of the built in to match the neutral wall color I choose. I can see a vintage typewriter and a few vintage cameras on those shelves.
Hubby and I spent the evening last night checking out flooring possibilities. One of these is ceramic tile, some solid wood, engineered wood and laminate. Decisions, decisions. This room flows from our front entry that is a lighter colored hardwood. I brought home a mix of tones to see which will coordinate with the existing floor, our woodwork, french doors and built-in. At first look I thought I'd need to stay with the lighter tones, but remembered my sister-in-law's powder room. It's a main floor powder room with three or four different wood tones from the floor, baseboards, vanity and built-in cupboard. That opens a lot more possibilities in my mind.
These are some paint samples I had from previous furniture projects. A trip to the paint store is in my future.
The room is going from formal to industrial with the exception of Scooter's chair. He spends the afternoon and when he's home alone in his chair. His little furry face pops up in the front window when he hears the garage door open. When he's no longer with us, neither will the chair.
The room is 15 x 12 and I have a floor plan drawn in my head. Stay tuned for the floor plan and progress on this home office.
