My kiddos are too big for fun themed birthday parties, so guess I have to live vicariously through my sister's chubby-cheeked littles. Mr. Freckles, my baby, is going to be turning 16 soon, and think I'm having kind of an empty nest, emotional kind of summer, especially without the busy-ness of Patina General always hanging over my head. Advice from an old mom to the young moms: Have fun with your kids' birthday parties, because it goes so fast! Their precious little lives should be celebrated! Make it special for them, and make it special for you to remember.
Sister decided to have a fishing theme for Mr. Blue Eye's number 1 birthday, because his Daddy is a big fisherman, and knew this would be a family hobby. I love the fact that even though he's just turning one, he didn't need to have a baby-ish party. It made it fun for all the little cousins, too.
Sister decorated the house with paper cut-out bobbers and fish hung from simple, rustic, twine. She used clothespins to hang all the adorable pictures she's taken of Mr. Blue Eyes in his first year of life.
She taped off and spray painted white paper globe lanterns to create the large bobbers, and combined them with a net for a big wall feature. I really like how they turned out.
She used adorable vintage tablecloths with red flowers and had an old minnow bucket on a slab of wood for the centerpiece. Yep...that slab came from the store;) She store bought the cupcakes, because a girl's gotta know her strengths...and her weaknesses. You can't make everything hard, otherwise it's not fun. She added her own fishing decor to personalize them.
(Sorry for the fuzzy pics. I really need to invest in a new camera, or get some young eyes again)
She got a lot of the ideas from Pinterest, of course. I loved how she made blue kool-aid in a clear container with bobbers floating. So cute.
She serves her drinks and appetizers on the beautiful hutch she bought from Patina General, one of Luann's masterpieces.
Of course, we got to enjoy dirt cups with gummy worms to accompany our cupcakes for dessert.
Mr. Blue Eyes thoroughly enjoyed his first, blue frosting cupcake, especially because he got to eat it all. by. himself.
