During our recent trip to the Northshore, Bethany was excited to tour the Congdon Mansion. The guys opted out and took in the train museum instead.
Hand stamped concrete tiles, aren't they beautiful?
I toured the mansion in the 80's, it was a formal guided tour. This time around we had access to more places in the mansion. We loved the self-guided tour because we could take our time and soak it all in. There were guides in every room to answer questions and give interesting tid bits about the home and the family, but we were on our own to enjoy every step of the way.
The architecture was truly amazing. While other tourists were in awe of the rooms, Bethany and I were looking up to take in the beautiful ceilings. The architecture alone is a reason to visit the mansion.
Our eyes were bouncing from one fascinating piece to the next, this home is dripping with beauty.
The interior walls are made of steel and concrete and are 12-14" thick... just a little sound proof. I noticed glass door knobs in several rooms, but this one was brass. Look at the detailing of the doors and walls. Just writing this post makes me want to go back.
Look for more of the mansion in upcoming blog posts.
